An outbreak of violence in the ongoing IsraeliPalestinian conflict commenced on May 10, 2021, though disturbances took place earlier, and continued until a ceasefire came into effect on May 21. As a result of the violence, at least 254 Palestinians including 66 children were killed. In Israel 13 people were killed, including one child. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that more than 1,900 Palestinians were injured, and as of May 12 Israel reported at least 200 injured Israelis. The Israeli airstrike was the latest in a series of assaults on targets in the Gaza Strip after a long dispute between Israel and Hamas erupted into an exchange of rocket attacks from Gaza and Israeli retaliation.
